DOMESTIC VIOLENCE- Introduction of Family Protection Policy

In cases of domestic violence, offenders may also find themselves subject to prosecution under Federal Decree-Law No. 31/2021 concerning Crimes and Penalties. As articulated in Article 394 of the law, individuals who cause bodily harm to another due to their actions could face imprisonment for a period not exceeding one year, along with a fine not surpassing AED 10,000/-. This legal provision underscores the gravity with which the UAE addresses acts of domestic violence, emphasizing the consequences for those found culpable under the law. The UAE introduced the Family Protection Policy to safeguard women, children, the elderly, and individuals with disabilities from mistreatment and misuse by their family members. Instances of abuse can be reported to the Ministry of Community Development (MCD) in the UAE.
